Appreciation Message from the Reverend Ollie V. Rencher. Dear St. Peter’s Parish Community: I write with enormous appreciation for all that was offered by you on the occasion of my leave-taking on June 30. We will always remember your many calls, notes, favors, and our visits and fellowship. Sunday, June 24 was a humbling and spectacular celebration—a day in time that has imprinted mine and Ellie’s lives in ways beyond words. God’s abundance was evident from the beautiful presence of worshippers to the powerful liturgy and music, to the fun picture-taking, to the grand reception. The ministry slide show, very kind remarks, Vestry gifts of a triptych of John Hall images and an Absalom Jones icon to be placed at St. Peter’s in my honor, and donations to a remarkably generous “Rector’s Purse,” affect me with a heart full of blessing and abiding love. As your transition unfolds and my new service at Grace-St. Luke’s in Memphis commences on July 25, followed by our Celebration of a New Ministry on August 22, let us hold one another in prayer and peace. In deep appreciation for our season in ministry and faith in the Good Shepherd who binds us, peace. The Reverend Ollie V. Rencher on July 22, 2018.

Community Life

Planning an Event at St. Peter’s? Here’s what we need from you! St. Peter’s holds a number of events each year that enrich the lives of our community. We want to continue doing so, but can only help if setup details are submitted five days prior to the event date. (If we are able to accommodate late requests, the event organizer must be responsible for event setup and cleanup.) If you are considering the use of space at St. Peter’s, please contact Kristie Lauderbaugh, Ministry Associate, (klauderbaugh@st-peters.org, 704-749-6141).

Young Adult First Sunday Brunch On August 5, all young adults are invited to gather after the 10:45 a.m. service to walk to brunch at 204 North Kitchen. Meet in the back of the nave after the service. For more information, contact Young Adult Coordinator, Jason Gingras (jason.gingras@gmail.com).

Summer Sunday Coffee Hour. A note from our Coffee Hour Baristas regarding Summer Coffee Hour: We love serving you after the 10:45 a.m. service, but due to our summer vacations, we will be providing only coffee, lemonade, and water for the next few weeks. We will be back in action with refreshments beginning August 26. As always, we welcome food offerings from parishioners throughout the year, and summer is no exception. Just drop them by the break room before the service.

Join the Ushers The St. Peter’s Usher Ministry is looking for more volunteers to serve on a once-monthly basis at the 8:00 a.m. Sunday Holy Eucharist. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Ministry Associate, Kristie Lauderbaugh (klauderbaugh@st-peters.org, 704-749-6141).

Pastoral Care: Sharing and Responding to Concerns. This protocol is the best way to communicate pastoral needs and ensure a response from a member of the clergy or pastoral care team.

Outreach and Social Justice

Pride at St. Peter’s, August 18 and 19. The St. Peter’s Pride Team has been hard at work preparing for our congregation’s participation in Charlotte Pride. Our theme this year is “Love is the Way,” inspired by our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry. We hope you will help us welcome and connect with our neighbors at this event and help us share the Jesus Movement with our community. As in past years, we will provide hospitality to parade marchers and viewers on the church lawn and host a potluck lunch in the community room following the parade on Sunday, August 19.
New this year, St. Peter’s will also have a booth in the festival on Saturday and Sunday. The booth will be an opportunity to welcome and connect with our neighbors. If you would like to be an ambassador for St. Peter’s at the booth, march in the parade, or help provide hospitality, please fill out this form.

St. Peter’s Pride Team Meetings. The Pride Team at St. Peter’s is hosting several meetings to organize the volunteer effort for our participation in Charlotte Pride. We will meet two more times before Pride weekend. All are welcome to join us.
Wednesday, July 25 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, August 9 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Summer Food Drive for Loaves and Fishes. During the month of July, St. Peter’s children will be collecting non-perishable items to raise awareness for childhood hunger and to support Loaves & Fishes. Non-perishable donations may be made to the big red barrels located adjacent to the entrance to the Chapel. Find more information online or contact Loaves & Fishes Parish Coordinator, Lynn Lewis (tekeweni@gmail.com, 704-332-4315).

Volunteer through Servant Ministry Partners. Our parish has a long custom of partnering with community social service agencies whose programs benefit the welfare of our neighbors. Learn more online and pick up a copy of a Servant Ministry through St. Peter’s resource from the public spaces at St. Peter’s.

Emails from the Church

Recently an online attacker copied a number of email addresses from our website and impersonated a member of the parish staff in an attempt to steal iTunes gift cards. Staff members will only communicate with you using their official @st-peters.org email addresses, so please be wary if you see a message from the church that uses another address.
