Cultivating Simplicity continues on Sunday, August 28, 9:30 a.m.

Too much stuff? Too little time? Join the Reverend Joslyn Ogden Schaefer, Associate Rector, for the last of a three-week series on cultivating simplicity in your life so that you can focus on the things that matter most. This session will offer brief readings, opportunities for reflection and sharing, and a supportive environment to begin to make small changes toward simplicity in mind, body, and spirit. 9:30–10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall.

Blessing of the Backpacks on Sunday, August 28 at the 10:45 a.m. liturgy

Children and teenagers are encouraged to bring their backpacks to our worship service for a special blessing as they begin the school year. Whether school has already started or will start soon, all are invited to participate.

New Schedule for “Sunday Evenings at St. Peter’s” begins September 11

The 5:00 p.m. service resumes on September 11 with Choral Evensong and Holy Eucharist. Every third Sunday, we offer our Taizé Holy Eucharist, with the next one on September 18. The complete Fall 2016 schedule for Sunday Evenings at St. Peter’s will be announced soon.

Monday Night Bible Study

Bible study is one of our core spiritual practices as Christians. Join Fr. Murdock Smith, Assisting Priest, and others for an in-depth look at the First Letter to the Corinthians, this fall, on Monday evenings from 6:00–7:45 p.m. The course begins on September 12 and runs through December 12. “Life at St. Peter’s” Fall 2016 Edition Coming Soon

Between late August and early September, our publication of parish worship, programs, and events for the next several months will be made available online, with paper copies available for pickup in the parish house lobby. Stay tuned for a release date as we gear up for a rich season of offerings to enhance our common life beginning September 11.

Registrations for Parish Retreat Weekend: “Finding Jesus in our Stories"

Stay tuned for an update, via special eNews, on where we are with registrations for this year’s parish retreat at Kanuga Conference Center, September 16–18, in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Additional spaces might be available. Organizers Meg Gibson and Cooper Morrison, the clergy, and others are finalizing plans for this time away from Charlotte designed to offer a different setting in which to rest and relax, strengthen bonds of friendship, and deepen faith among those gathered.

Parish House Regular Hours Resume August 29

On Monday, August 29, Parish House hours will return to Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., including Monday’s 30-minute 8:00 a.m. service of Morning Prayer in the Chapel.

Sunday Coffee Hour Hosts Needed

Can you provide hospitality to others at St. Peter’s after the Sunday 10:45 a.m. service? Barista coordinator Sue Martin is recruiting people to assist with our wonderful, boisterous time of fellowship after 10:45 a.m. worship. New Coffee Hour hosts (baristas) are needed on third and fifth Sundays. E-mail Sue at martinsusanne@att.net to learn more.

Senior Class (55+) Monthly Luncheon, Third Tuesdays

On the third Tuesday of each month, parishioners age 55+ are invited to fellowship over lunch at different locations throughout Charlotte. The next gathering will be on Tuesday, September 20, 11:30 a.m. at Carolina Prime Steakhouse on East Woodlawn Road. Parenting Fellowship Group

Parents and children are invited to join Mother Joslyn and one another in the Nursery on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, 11:00 a.m.–noon, for a time of play, prayer, and fellowship. Our next meet-ups will be September 7 and 21. Often a short reading is sent out beforehand for a group discussion. Youth Updates

The annual Journey to Adulthood Beach Retreat for rising 6th through 12th graders is coming soon. We will head for Myrtle Beach Christian Retreat Center on Friday, September 2 and return Monday, September 5. The annual Youth Yard Sale is Saturday, September 24, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., at 3412 Cambria Road. Please clean out your closets, attics, garages, and basements and save your no longer needed treasures for our fund-raiser.
