This offering is designed to be inclusive of children but not child-centric – all are welcome! Revised Worship Schedule for Sunday 5:00 p.m.
Beginning in July, the 5:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist monthly schedule will change to the third Sunday only. On third Sundays, our regular Taizé Holy Eucharist service will be offered. Then on the fifth Sunday, July 31, Saints in the Summer continues weekly at 5:00 p.m. through August 21. The new fall schedule for Sunday Evenings at St. Peter’s will be announced soon.
Book Launch and Reading
The Reverend Jonathan Martin, a noted author and speaker, will launch his latest book How to Survive a Shipwreck on Saturday, July 30 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Peter’s Parish Hall. In addition to the author reading selections from his book, musician Nichole Nordeman will offer music. Our parish has played a significant role in Jonathan’s turbulent, but grace-filled faith journey. A light reception will follow.
Parish Retreat Weekend: Finding Jesus in our Stories
All individuals and households are invited to our parish retreat at Kanuga Conference Center (www.kanuga.org), September 16–18. Under the leadership of Meg Gibson and Cooper Morrison, this retreat will deepen your faith and strengthen the bonds of friendship for all who attend. Pricing includes options for singles, couples, children, and youth for one night or two. Review details and sign up no later than Monday, August 15. Parenting Fellowship Group
Parents and children are invited to join Mother Joslyn and one another in the Nursery on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, 11:00 a.m.–noon, for a time of play, prayer, and fellowship. Our next meet-ups will be August 3 and August 17. Often a short reading is sent out beforehand for a group discussion. Young Adult Gathering

Town Hall Meeting about Justice in Charlotte
The Social Justice Ministries of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and First United Presbyterian Church (406 N. College at W. Seventh streets) present a Town Hall meeting/workshop on what justice means in our Charlotte context and how we can forgive in the face of injustice. The meeting will feature Garry McFadden, a retired homicide detective and Anthony Scott, brother of the late Walter Scott of Charleston, S.C. The workshop will be held Saturday, August 6, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at First United Presbyterian, and light refreshments will be served. RSVP by Saturday, July 30 by calling 704-376-8014.

Continuing Our Efforts to Promote Social Justice: Donations for Episcopal Farmworker Ministry
Our Social Justice Ministry Team is seeking donations of clothing for the farmworkers (long sleeved shirts and khaki pants, especially) and their children, as well as school supplies (backpacks filled with a pack of 100 sheets of notebook paper, a pack of pencils, a ruler and a 24-pack of crayons). Starting Wednesday, July 20 through Sunday, August 14, please bring donations to the “Episcopal Farmworker Ministry” bins in the Gallery of the Parish House. Whether or not you plan to experience one of the upcoming mission trips, donations will be appreciated. Another way to support our ministry relationship would be to join us for a 3-day mission trip to the Episcopal Farmworkers Ministry camp in Eastern North Carolina in August. Two trips for adults, teens, and children are planned for August 9-12 and August 16-19. Summertime Call: Lay Ministers for Worship Roles
The Clergy and Vestry Coordinators for Worship and The Arts, Abigail Cudabac and Paul Keller, are now recruiting personnel and will collaborate with respective ministry team leaders to offer training sessions or make other appropriate connections for prospective new Acolytes (adult and youth from grade 5), the Altar Guild, Eucharistic Ministers, the Flower Guild, Lectors, Morning Prayer Officiants, the St. Peter’s Choir, and Ushers. Training sessions will be offered between August and September to begin new ministry in Fall 2016. 8th Street Community Garden Update and Help Request
Summer workday schedule for the garden co-managed by St. Peter’s Church and Trinity Episcopal School: Friday, July 29, 9:00–11:00 a.m.; Wednesday, August 3, 9:00–11:00 a.m.; Saturday, August 6, 10:00 a.m.–Noon. We only have one per week scheduled, so help is very necessary. During the first week of August, we will be starting seeds for our fall crops and preparing our beds for fall planting. Summer Parish House Hours
From June 20 through August 22, the parish clergy and staff offices and parish house will be closed on Mondays. Parish House hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. For any hospital or pastoral emergencies concerning a member, contact the Clergy On Call at 704-749-6175 and provide a detailed message for prompt response.
Book Study to be Hosted at Galilee Center
“Healing the Heart of Democracy,” by Parker J. Palmer, is the topic for a book study hosted by the Galilee Center. Beginning Tuesday, August 2 at 7:00 p.m. and continuing on first Tuesdays through January 3, 2017 the group will explore the five “habits of the heart” that can be developed in every day settings such as families, neighborhoods, schools, congregations, and workplaces to help restore a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” The Galilee Center is at 3601 Central Avenue. All are welcome.
